WA is the place to be at the moment – about 73,000 people moved to our beautiful state from overseas and interstate in the year to June 2023. And more are on the way, according to government forecasts.

www.reiwa.com is the home of WA real estate and we’ve done a deep dive into the data to see who’s looking at the WA property market and what exactly they’re looking at.

Trends across Australia

There were interesting shifts in search trends between 2022 and 2023.

Queenslanders showed a strong surge of interest in WA property, with Brisbane recording a remarkable 87 per cent increase in views on www.reiwa.com – with a strong focus on rental listings. Interestingly searches of commercial property were more popular than residential properties for sale, indicating a possible inclination toward business and investment opportunities within WA.

Views from Melbourne rose nearly 12 per cent and were balanced fairly evenly between sales and rental properties.  Sydneysiders showed more interest in properties for sale. With our members reporting strong interest from Eastern States investors, they could be looking to invest in our rental market – property in WA is certainly more affordable than in New South Wales and there is the potential for good yields.

reiwa.com on the global stage

With about 84 per cent of migrants to WA coming from overseas, it’s no surprise that international property hunters are viewing WA real estate. The United States, Singapore, New Zealand, India and Indonesia were the five most active countries on www.reiwa.com in 2023. The US was by far the most active in terms of website visitors overall, while Indonesia recorded the biggest growth at 69 per cent.

For web traffic coming out of the US, the emphasis was on news and feature articles in www.reiwa.com’s Insights section, indicating a strong interest in market research and analysis. Page views from Singapore and New Zealand trended more towards listings for sale and rent.

Within the top five countries, there was generally a balance between searches for both sale and rent.
